My “journey” as a photographer began twenty-three years ago when I took my first photography class as a sophomore in high school. I knew immediately that this was my calling. I spent the next eight years studying photography ending with a college major in photography as well as a rare certification in Biomedical/Forensic Imaging. My passion led me into the expertise of Documentary Photography. My images have been featured in Time Magazine, Life Magazine (an image from my coverage of the ValuJet 592 tragedy is apart of their permanent archives), Miami Herald, New York Times, Daily Telegraph and multiple other international newspapers.
My experiences as a documentary photographer perfectly trained me for wedding photography. They both involve accurately and creatively documenting a real life event with ever changing lighting and
weather conditions as well as spontaneous moments that can not be planned for. Both are full of moments that only happen once and can never be reshot.

People keep telling us our engagement/wedding photos look magazine-quality.”

Charis joined Ivan Apfel Photography in 2009. Charis began her photography career in early 2007. Since then, her photographs have appeared in Ocean Drive Magazine, 944, the Architectural Digest and the online magazine Missbehave. Camera Obscura, an Italian blog devoted to contemporary photography and art, featured an article on her series of images from the Black Sunday Event Series on Miami Beach.
One thing about Charis, you will never see her without a camera in her hand. And if she doesn’t you can guarantee that she has it in her purse. We’re convinced that unlike other women, Charis’ chooses purses based on their ability to hold a DSLR.
